He's also recognized for his role in his community through his years of work with Sidney-by-the-Sea Rotary Club, as a former president of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation and most recently through his involvement with the Ride to Conquer Cancer in support of the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

When he's not working, John can usually be found spending time with friends and family, hanging out with his grandsons or getting out for a rides with a local cycling group or on his Harley. Together with his wife Susan, John has also been working on crossing off a few more travel destinations from his "bucket list"!
